Sony schließt auf weltweiter Basis zu Microsoft auf. Nach Daten beider Plattforminhaber, die von IndustryGamers eingeholt wurden, liegt die installierte Hardwarebasis der PlayStation 3 weltweit bei 41,6 Millionen Stück.
Microsoft hat dagegen eigenen Angaben zufolge 44,6 Millionen Stück verkauft. Im Mai lag die PS3 noch 4,4 Millionen Stück hinter der Xbox 360. Seitdem konnte Microsoft 4,4 Millionen Konsolen absetzen; Sony verkaufte 5,6 Millionen.
