NCSoft stoppt Abo-Modell für Lineage II

Der koreanische Publisher NCSoft wird nach City of Heroes nun auch das Fantasy-Rollenspiel Lineage II bis Ende des Jahres auf ein Free2Play-Modell umstellen. Die Änderung soll mit der noch nicht exakt datierten Veröffentlichung der Erweiterung Goddess of Destruction vollzogen werden.
In Zukunft werden Ingame-Gegenstände, die kosmetischen Zwecken dienen oder spielbeschleunigend eingesetzt werden können, über Mikrotransaktionen verkauft.
Bereits einige andere frühere Abo-Spiele anderer Publisher wie etwa Age of Conan, Dungeons & Dragons oder Der Herr der Ringe wurden erfolgreich auf Free2play-Modelle umgestellt.
Von Lineage II wurden nach Unternehmensangaben weltweit mehr als 18 Millionen Exemplare abgesetzt. Die Hauptmärkte für den Titel sind Südkorea und die USA. Die aktuelle Abonnentenzahl wird auf rund eine Million geschätzt. Marktführer Blizzard gibt die aktuelle Abonnentenzahl mit zwölf Millionen an.
